When getting your home ready it is important to keep it neutral.  Yes, you may like orange walls covered with lots of memorabilia but your potential buyer may not agree.  Actually a radiant color could take away the focus from the rest of the  house and someone who would have been the perfect buyer could be lost.

Tastes are relative but a simple, neutral, un-cluttered environment has been proven best for staging a home for sale.  Note that living in a house and selling a house are two different animals.

So here are some tips for selling your home:

  • Remove personal items like family photos.  This will make it easier for your potential buyer to envision their belongings in the house.
  • Make your home shine. Clean all the kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
  • Paint your walls with neutral colors.  As mentioned before buyers might be turned off by the orange walls.
  • Make repairs.  How would you feel when you look at a house with water stains, or broken windows?  Your potential buyer will not like it either.
  • Organize your closets.  You would not want to give the impression that the house lacks on storage space.
  • Improve your curb appeal.  It is the first impression that counts so if your potential buyer sees a nice looking entrance they will already feel good about the house.
  • Eliminate bad odors. A house that smells like cats or birds is not very inviting and therefore most likely will not sell.

These are just a few simple tips. If you pay attention to these details chances are that your home will sell quicker and for more.
